A song written about the brave female pilots from Russia who flew in hand me down biplanes and dropped bombs on Nazi Germany. The Germans dubbed them Nachthexen, which translates to Night Witches. The Nazis were so scared of these women that any German pilot who shot down a Night Witch was automatically awarded the Iron Cross medal. Flying more than 30,000 missions, they were a critical asset in winning the war. Despite being the most highly decorated unit in the Russian Air Force, the Night Witches sadly disbanded shortly after the end of the war and were excluded from the victory day parade in Moscow.
